Victoria police arrested a wanted man from Ontario who allegedly threatened a bus driver with a knife on Sept. 15.

The incident happened near the intersection of Fort Street and Lee Avenue. According to police, a man boarded the bus, threatened the bus driver, and then sat down. Three stops later, the man got up and approached the BC Transit driver, pulling out a knife and brandishing it at him.

The driver immediately called for assistance and told the man that police were on the way. The man fled the bus and was last seen heading towards Foul Bay Road. No one was physically injured.

VicPD initially tweeted a suspect description and asked for the public’s help in finding him. Police then obtained CCTV footage of the incident and released still photos of a suspect on Thursday.

On Friday, VicPD said an officer recognized the suspect after previously interacting with them at a park. The suspect was then found on Sept. 22 and arrested.

After the suspect was identified, police found out he had a bench warrant related to a series of convictions in Ontario, for offences including attempted murder, assault with a weapon, assault, break and enter, mischief and weapons possession.

He was transported to VicPD cells and officers have requested an extension of his warrant to remand him to Ontario to address his charges there.
