The Capital Regional District has awarded contracts to create a phased-in kitchen scraps removal program on Wednesday.
Super Save Disposal Inc. will haul the scraps, while Vantreight Farms will be responsible for receiving and processing. The total cost is about $141,500 in 2013 and $498,900 in 2014, reflecting the expansion of the program.
While Vantreight Farms does not own or operate an in-vessel processing facility for kitchen scraps, it has promised to be operational by Feb. 1.
