T’Souke-ke Nation breaks ground on Tim Hortons

New doughnut shop and gas bar expected to open in August

Sooke is officially one step closer to the caffeine fix its been patiently waiting for.

Last week, the T’Souke-ke Nation began clearing the site for the new Tim Hortons, which will be combined with a Petro-Canada gas station and convenience store.

The site clearing and leveling is expected to last for the next two and a half of months. Construction is planned to start on March 1.

Infrastructure work will be done by the T’Sou-ke Nation and the commercial development portion of the construction will be completed by PetroMaxx Construction Services.

The $5.2-million project was first announced in February 2016, but was held up due to lack of funding.

Gordon Planes, chief of the T’Souke-ke Nation, said the development will create employment for T’Sou-ke Nation members and Sooke community, both while building it and when it is finished.

“Personally I am looking forward to economic benefits to the Nation the project will bring,” said Planes.

The grand opening for the new coffee shop is planned for next August.
