Transit tweaks bus routes

Starting Monday buses will be using the new McTavish transit exchange, despite ongoing construction.

Starting Monday buses will be using the new McTavish transit exchange, despite ongoing construction.

Alongside the new exchange are the start of summer schedules and revised service on the Saanich Peninsula plus introduction of a new transfer policy throughout Greater Victoria.

Transit tweaked bus service on the Peninsula with the objectives of simplifying existing schedules, creating more direct routes, and expanding service coverage.

To standardize and simplify the transit numbering system, routes providing regional service connecting the Peninsula to Victoria will adopt 70-series numbering; while routes providing service within the Peninsula will adopt 80-series numbering. They're also introducing a new route, 88 Sidney/Airport, to provide service to the airport from the McTavish Transit Exchange, Sidney and West Sidney.

Several additional changes are being introduced to provide more direct service regionally, eliminate unused stops and consolidate underutilized routes. View the summer and altered schedules online at www.bctransit.com.

Starting June 27, the Victoria Regional Transit System will also introduce new dated transfers that are valid for 60 minutes in a single direction. The fine for failing to present valid proof of payment while on transit is $173.
