Truck driver Rick Dhaliwal and retired truck driver Herb Winfield took a moment to pose in front of Dhaliwal’s Frieghtliner Classic for the Peninsula News Review during the set-up for the Island Big Rig Show at Heritage Acres on Aug. 3.

Dhaliwal, who hails from Manitoba, drove his rig all the way from Winnipeg to be in the show which ran over the August long weekend.

“I did it because it’s for a really good cause,” Dhaliwal said.

The show has been happening annually since 2006 and supports the Convoy for Kids which benefits the B.C. Children’s Hospital.

The event also serves as a memorial to Butch Taylor, who during his working life, worked as a truck driver, instructor and advocate of the trucking industry. Taylor taught and mentored many drivers, donated money, and served as a model driver advocating safety and better working conditions for truck drivers.
