One year after the Vancouver Stanley Cup riots, a national charity headquartered in Victoria has been launched in response.
Former broadcasting executive Miles Craig announced the creation of Canada’s Temperance Foundation. The goal is to educate people about the benefits of abstinence or restraint in the use of alcohol and drugs.
“I was outraged by the reckless and senseless violence that occurred in Vancouver,” Craig said in a press release. “Fuelled by the misuse of alcohol and drugs, the riot demonstrated the need and importance of promoting temperance in both alcohol and drugs to both the young and old of society.”
