The Town of Sidney is inviting residents to provide their thoughts on the town’s draft Active Transportation Plan until March 17.

Once finalized and approved by council, the plan will serve as a road map for the town’s efforts to ensure more people feel supported and comfortable choosing active transportation options like walking, cycling or travelling by electric scooter.

But before that can happen, the town wants to build on the public input collected in spring 2022 which helped produce the draft plan through an online survey available at sidney.ca and by email submissions to activetransportation@sidney.ca.

Residents will also be able to have their say on the plan, or learn more about it, in-person at several upcoming events. Two pop-up information tents for the plan will be held in February, one on Feb. 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of Beacon Avenue and Fifth Street, and another on Feb. 22 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the corner of Henry Avenue and Seventh Street.

The town will also be hosting an open house at the Mary Winspear Centre Feb. 22 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

“Council is looking forward to hearing from community members and ensuring improvements to our sidewalks and cycling facilities meet the needs of our residents and businesses,” said Mayor Cliff McNeil-Smith in a news release. “Part of Sidney’s warm character comes from the many people who greet and look out for one another as they walk and use mobility devices to get around town. With further strategic improvements, more people of all ages and abilities can enjoy the benefits of active transportation.”
