Sewer line rupture closes washrooms and kitchens at B.C. Legislature

Facilities on east side of building closed after line bursts

A ruptured sewer line resulted in the closure of kitchens and washrooms in the B.C. Legislature Thursday.

The “urgent operational concern” was announced to building staff just after noon.

A central main sewer line connected to the legislature ruptured from a blockage Thursday morning, necessitating the closure of all washrooms and kitchens on the east side of the building, according to the notice.

Sinks and washrooms in ministerial offices are also not to be used until further notice.

The west side of the building, including the West Annex, Press Gallery and Legislative Library were not affected by the rupture and remain open.

The line is currently undergoing repair.
