Sandown project deferred

At Monday night’s meeting North Saanich Council moved to defer the motion for first and second reading of bylaws for the Sandown project to a September council meeting, citing the need for more time to advise the public of the staff report.

The report includes a rough business case for the proposal, which would see the municipality gain 95 acres on the old racetrack property on Glamorgan Road; the acreage would be put in a covenant solely for agricultural use. The remaining 12 acres would be removed from the Agricultural Land Reserve and used for commercial development by the property owner. In exchange, 12.05 acres of municipal land would be put into the ALR. The land swap must first be approved by the Agricultural Land Commission.

Council also moved to put the staff report on the North Saanich website for the public to read. Go to www.northsaanich.ca to read the report.
