The District of Saanich announced on Sept. 28 that municipal top-up rebates are now available to multifamily buildings looking to install electric vehicle (EV) chargers.

With the Capital Regional District showing the highest rate of new electric vehicle registrations per capita in Canada, Saanich is adding to the existing provincial rebates provided through the CleanBC Go Electric EV Charger Rebate Program.

“We’re committed to cutting our emissions in half by 2030, and within our climate plan we’d need to see over a third of our residents in electric vehicles by the end of the decade to reach our targets,” said Maggie Baynham, senior sustainability planner with the district of Saanich.

The program provides rebates for the upgrades needed to ready buildings for electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

The CleanBC Go Electric EV Charger Rebate Program offers up to $3,000 for an electric vehicle-ready plan and up to $600 is provided per parking space.

An additional $1,000 top-up incentive will be made available through the District of Saanich, as well as a $100 per stall top-up.

“We want to make it easier for people to choose an electric vehicle when they’re ready, and at-home charging is one of the biggest factors when making that decision,” Baynham said.
