Saanich Gulf Islands debate includes all

Green Party leader Elizabeth May’s exclusion from the leaders debate last week generated a lot of ink and polarized opinions. The Green Party challenged the ruling by a consortium of TV broadcasters in the Federal Court of Appeal, but a judge decided against hearing the judicial review.

May held her own by holding an online forum in which she participated alongside Stephen Harper, Jack Layton, Michael Ignatieff and Gilles Duceppe.

Saanich Gulf Islands riding residents will not have to turn on their computers to get an earful of May’s political views this week.

The Peninsula Chamber, the Peninsula News Review and Mary Winspear Centre, with support provided by the Canadian Federation of University Women-Saanich Peninsula, will co-host an all candidates meeting, today (Wednesday, April 20), at the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney.

Federal candidates standing for election in the Saanich Gulf Islands constituency including Conservative Gary Lunn, Liberal Renée Hetherington, NDP Edith Loring-Kuhanga and the Green Party’s Elizabeth May will be in attendance. Stephen Andrew, A Vancouver Island News, will moderate the proceedings. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting starting at 7 p.m.
