Roadblock yields impaired drivers, pot

Counterattack roadblock kept impaired drivers off streets

A counterattack roadblock by Central Saanich police turned up impaired drivers and a small amount of marijuana July 12.

A 51-year-old woman from Central Saanich was stopped at the road block in the 1800 block of Keating X Road and after officers noted the smell of alcohol in the vehicle she blew two warnings in a roadside screening. The woman was subsequently issued a three day driving suspension and vehicle impound.

During the same roadblock, officers stopped a vehicle with man driving and a 20-year-old woman passenger who admitted to having a small amount of marijuana in her possession. The amount was small enough that officers didn’t file charges. The pot was confiscated and destroyed.
