Rig fire puts trailer full of cars at risk

Central Saanich emergency services put out trailer fire on Pat Bay Highway

A rig pulling a trailer full of vehicles drew a major emergency response late last night on Highway 17.

Central Saanich police and fire were called to the southbound lanes of the highway near Mount Newton X Road shortly after 11 p.m. The truck driver detached the trailer from the truck after a fire started in the rear axel of the trailer filled with nine vehicles.

Police controlled traffic while the fire department tackled the fire. The driver then reconnected the trailer and moved it off the highway for repairs.
