Podmore ready for more

Sidney Councillor Kenny Podmore announced that he will seek re-election in this fall’s municipal election.

Sidney Councillor Kenny Podmore announced that he will seek re-election in this fall’s municipal election.

“It’s been an honor and privilege to serve the people of Sidney. I love the town and the people who live here and I’m proud to call Sidney home,” said Podmore.

Podmore was first elected to Sidney council in 2008. He has spearheaded many community events and initiatives, both as a community volunteer and as a councillor.

Podmore said that being a good councillor entails not only making sound decisions at the council level, but also being visible and accessible to the community, meeting the people and listening to their concerns and ideas. “To that end, I will continue to commit my energies to serving the best interests of the people,” he said.

An issue of primary importance for Podmore is the preservation of Sidney as the most vibrant seaside community on Vancouver Island. With that in mind he identified several key issues and challenges to be addressed by the next council including sustainability of business; greater emphasis on further development of tourism opportunities; preservation of the town’s socio-economic mix; and the urgent need for affordable housing, including encouraging residents to develop secondary suites.

Also on the front-burner for Podmore are issues around traffic flow and crosswalk safety. And he’d like to see a greater police presence in the community.

“I will continue to put my heart into making Sidney a place where everyone can find the happiness that I have found here.”

This year’s BC municipal elections will be on Saturday, Nov. 19.
