Peninsula sees spike in spooky things

Lots to do this weekend and Monday around the region

Scary events are plentiful leading up to Halloween, with fireworks marking the night.

Join the North Saanich Fire Department for its annual bonfire and fireworks on Monday, Oct. 31 at Wain Road fire hall. Bonfire, hot dogs, and drinks start at 6:30 p.m. Fireworks start at 7:45 p.m.

Central Saanich residents too will dress up in their scariest or sparkliest costumes for the annual district-sponsored Halloween festivities at 7:30 p.m. in Centennial Park. Fireworks start at 8 p.m.

On Sunday the kids can have  fun at Panorama Recreation Centre. Normal drop-in rates apply for a themed swim, crafts, activities, games, prizes and face painting. Visit www.panoramarecreation.ca for more information.

Kindergym too will have a spook-tacular morning of excitement with ride-on toys, giant inflatable obstacle course and activity stations plus a special visit from Slider the mascot. The event will be held on Sunday, Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Greenglade Community Centre. Cost is $5.50 or a Kindergym punch pass.

Stelly’s secondary will host a free Halloween Howl with carnival games provided by the students and Panorama Recreation from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

It will be a super scary Sunday at Greenglade too on Oct. 30 with its own free Halloween Howl from 4:30 to 6 p.m. A fang-tastic Halloween event for the whole family including carnival of games, craft activities, face painting, family entertainment and the giant inflatable obstacle course. Costumes are recommended.

Take in the haunted Scratch Patch at Mineral World now through to Monday, Oct. 31. Admission is always free.
