Peninsula hotel robbed

Just after noon on Oct. 8, a lone suspect robbed the Super 8 hotel on Mt. Newton X Road in Saanichton.

An employee is shaken but uninjured after an afternoon robbery of a Peninsula hotel.

Just after noon on Oct. 8, a lone suspect robbed the Super 8 hotel on Mt. Newton X Road in Saanichton.

"The suspect walked in and approached the counter," said media liaison Cpl. Chris Swain, of Sidney North Saanich RCMP. "He did not produce a weapon nor did he indicate that he had one, but he demanded that the employee open the cash drawer. The suspect then jumped over the counter and grabbed a small amount of cash from the drawer. He ran back outside and away from the scene."

Swain said RCMP and Central Saanich Police were on the scene within a minute, setting up containment of the area. A police dog team was also called in to help.

"It was later determined that the suspect had arrived driving a gray, newer model Ford F150 extended cab pickup, which he had parked near the front doors. He left in the same truck," Swain said.

The suspect is described as a tall, thin, caucasian man in his mid- to late-20s, wearing sunglasses and a dark hat with wavy hair sticking out from underneath. His clothing was described as  a dark blue jacket with gray near the waist and dark coloured jeans.

Anyone with information on the robbery should call Sidney North Saanich RCMP at 250-656-3931 or Crimestoppers at 1 800-222-8477.
