“We’re very lucky to have the Mary Winspear and I wanted to see it stay vibrant,” she says.

Pendray said she enjoyed the variety of shows at the Mary Winspear, including rock, classical, and the current speaker series featuring Jann Arden, Kim Campbell, and Peter Mansbridge.

Pendray said one major highlight was in 2007, when her husband David’s memorial service was held at the Mary Winspear Centre’s Bodine Hall, with more than 1,100 attendees.

“I really want to see this centre thrive,” said Linda.

Brad Edgett, executive director of the Mary Winspear Centre, said the total fundraising campaign aims to raise between $2.5 to 2.6 million, and they have raised $1 million to date. It is the first major fundraising initiative the centre has undertaken in the last decade. The community raised $7.3 million to build the theatre at the turn of the millennium, but he said it is time to bulk up the reserve fund for continual improvements.
