One arrested, weapons and drugs seized in Sooke bust

During the Feb. 6 raid, police found firearms, ammunition, drugs, and brass knuckles

One person was arrested and a number of guns, drugs, and stolen property were recovered during a recent bust in Sooke, police announced.

The Feb.6 raid took place as the RCMP assisted the Canadian Armed Forces military police in the execution of a search warrant on a home in the 1600-block of Connie Road in Sooke.

Inside, police found methamphetamine, an assault rifle, a sawed-off shotgun, brass knuckles, ammunition and gun magazines.

The raid stemmed from a crime that had occurred on Jan. 10 when someone broke into a recreational vehicle compound in Colwood. The RVs on-site were owned by military members, who parked the units on Department of National Defence property.

Eighteen vehicles were broken into and military police said they took Alexander Taylor, who they described as a suspicious individual in the area, into custody.

Military police were forced to release Taylor when they lacked enough evidence to link him to the crime.

Police continued the investigation and obtained a search warrant of his Sooke residence.

The bulk of the stolen property related to the RV break-ins was recovered during the raid on the Connie Road home, along with the drugs and firearms, said RCMP Sgt. Clayton Wiebe.

RCMP have charged Taylor, 34, with possession of a prohibited weapon, unsafe storage of firearms, breach of recognizance, and possession of firearms while prohibited.

Other charges concerning the stolen property, firearms and methamphetamine are pending.

Taylor was on bail on an unrelated break and enter charge at the time of his arrest. He is scheduled to next appear in provincial court on March 7.
