Marijuana might be legal, but Oak Bay police still respond to cannabis-related incidents.

A standardized field sobriety test of a driver on Beach Drive concluded that the driver was under the influence of marijuana. The individual’s vehicle was impounded and a 24-hour driving suspension issued.

A foot patrol in the Bowker Creek area led officers to find three youths with cannabis in their possession. Police didn’t issue any tickets but turned the youths over to their school principal.

Finally, a foot patrol along Willows Beach revealed a driver who had cannabis in reach, and “not in an unopened package from a federal producer.” The driver was given a violation ticket.

Non-cannabis related incidents in Oak Bay last week included two thefts from unlocked vehicles – one in the 1900 block of Granite Street where mail was stolen, and another in the 3000 block of Eastdowne Road, where glasses and a wallet were taken. The thief proceeded to use credit cards from the stolen wallet for “fraudulent purposes.”

Police are also seeking the public’s assistance in determining the identity of a motorcycle rider who rode across a lawn in the 1700 block of Hampshire Road on two occasions. The public is urged to contact 250-592-2424 or Crime Stoppers with any information.
