North Saanich firefighters help ambulance crew in snowy conditions

Busy night for firefighters filled with calls for downed lines, trees on fire

Ice and snow can cause challenges for everyone – even first responders.

The late February snowfall meant the North Saanich Fire Department had a busy end to the month. A 12-hour stretch packed with calls started shortly before midnight on Feb. 27. Firefighters responded to a number of calls for lines down, trees on fire and even a special request from B.C. Emergency Health Services.

The North Saanich Volunteer Firefighters Association documented some of the night on Instagram, noting firefighters were called to assist an ambulance crew at around 4:30 a.m. on Feb. 28. The crew was trying to navigate a challenging driveway in the 8800-block of West Saanich Road and was met with slippery conditions.
