Henry (Hank) Kitchell has been found safe after the 61-year-old was the subject of a missing person alert on Monday (Oct. 24).

Kitchell left for a solo camping trip on Oct. 18 and police said his plan was to go to Fairy Lake near Port Renfrew for a night before heading into Carmanah Walbran Provincial Park. The alert was issued after he was supposed to return home on Oct. 21 but didn’t.

Saanich police on Tuesday said Kitchell got lost while out hiking in the Campbell River area. He’s tired but looking forward to returning home, police said.
