Hot dog day Thursday

Fundraiser to help local family and Tour de Rock rider

Forget the stuffy corporate lunch, this Thursday (Sept. 29) bring your appetite to 9843 Second Street in Sidney.

From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. the staff of the Peninsula News Review, with help from Peninsula Co-op, will be serving up Hot Dogs for Henry — a fundraiser for the family of toddler Henry Down who was diagnosed with cancer in August and has been at Children’s Hospital in Vancouver receiving treatment since.

Henry’s parents Jo and Alix, both raised in Sidney, are at his bedside doing their best to help Henry cope with chemotherapy treatment, along with dealing with the associated cost of job loss and travel.

Part of the proceeds from our lunchtime fundraiser will also go to the Canadian Cancer Society’s Tour de Rock.

This year Chris Bush, Black Press photojournalist from Nanaimo is on the ride and we want to help show our support for Chris and his journey with the tour, which raises money for pediatric cancer research and programs for children with a history of cancer.

“We are happy to support both Henry and Chris as part of Black Press’ official sponsorship of  the Canadian Cancer Society Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock,” said News Review publisher Jim Parker. “The entire Down family is going through a very tough time and we can’t imagine the pain that they are all going through. The last thing they should have to worry about is the mounting costs of travelling to and staying at the Children’s Hospital in Vancouver.”

You can follow Chris’ blog from our website, www.peninsulanewsreview.com, find the Tour de Rock link on the upper right side of the page or follow us on facebook and read more about both Chris and Henry there.

Be a lunchtime hero this week and treat your sweetie to a hot dog by donation this Thursday, or come down and load up on some tasty dogs for the whole staff -— however you opt to do it, please come and join us in supporting both Henry and his parents and Tour de Rock rider Chris Bush in their fight against cancer.
