A pair of men will get a decision in December in relation to a horse death in Central Saanich.

David Whiffin and Clayton Cunningham were charged with causing unnecessary pain and suffering to an animal and with failing to provide it with the necessaries. The trial dates back to an SPCA investigation into the killing of a  27-year-old Appaloosa gelding, Jalupae on a Brentwood Bay property in November of 2009.

According to the BC SPCA investigation, the accused allowed Jalupae to starve to the point of emaciation and then tied a rope around the horse’s neck and attached it to the bucket of an excavator, raising Jalupae off the ground until he died of strangulation.

The decision is slated for Dec. 13 at Victoria Law Courts.
