Horse drawn carriages returning to Sidney

Town of Sidney changes bylaw for business license

Residents of Sidney may soon hear the familiar clip-clop of hooves on the town’s streets.

Council gave approval Monday night to bylaw changes that will allow Central Saanich-based Black Beauty Line Carriage Tours to operate on a trial basis, starting as early as this fall.

No one has actively run carriages in Sidney for years. Council moved to change the wording of the bylaw because it was linked directly to Victoria Single Horse Drawn Carriage Tours Inc., the company that previously held the exclusive licence to operate in Sidney.

According to Black Beauty’s application, it hopes to begin a trial period this fall to examine how they will operate in Sidney.

Past carriage operators in the town at one point had their horses and wagons stationed at the entrance of the Port Sidney Marina.
