Thousands of volunteer hours keep critical parts of the Peninsula running smoothly every year.

As they have each year for the past 13 years, friends, family and fans of those nominated for the Hearts of the Community Volunteer Awards filled the Charlie White Theatre for the event sponsored by the Peninsula News Review and Beacon Community Services Tuesday.

A total of 22 outstanding volunteers were nominated for awards and six winners were announced. Sam Weber was named Outstanding Youth Volunteer, Gary Lenz was awarded for his Service to Families and Children, Alli Rickson accepted the Service to Seniors award, Community Service or Project by a Group went to Neighbours, Sally Turner earned the Overall Service to Community and Jack MacAuley accepted the Lifetime Service Award.

The Peninsula News Review and Beacon Community Services congratulate all of the nominees and invite you to read the stories of the six winners throughout this issue of the Peninsula News Review.
