Goldstream Avenue has re-opened after a gas line was ruptured in Langford between Matson and Spencer roads.

Homeowner Albert Arsenault got too close to a gas line while trying to connect his sewage line with an excavator. Arsenault noted he contacted BC1C before he began digging.

“We figured we were in the clear, according to the diagram they sent us,” Arsenault said. “We asked if anybody could come over to make sure, but they said … ‘as long as you stay parallel to the house you’re safe.’”

While crews were accessing the scene, one neighbour and his daughter were temporarily asked to leave their home.

Ruth King Elementary and Spencer Middle Schools were not impacted by the closure.
