If you were to ask most people on Vancouver Island how their Spring has been, you’d most likely get a response about the poor weather and lack of sunshine.

The month of March went down as one of the wettest on record, going back more than 100 years. April brought more showers and while May has been mostly dry, residents still haven’t experienced much in the way of sunshine and blue sky.

Thankfully that is all about to change.

Environment Canada is forecasting consecutive sunny days for the first time in recent memory, with highs expected to climb into the mid-20s by early next week.

The sunshine is expected to begin on Saturday with highs of 19 degrees but will push up to 26 degrees by early next week. That means everyone will be clamouring to have some fun, and just in time for the Victoria Day long weekend!

The Federal government’s weather department has also launched new detailed forecast regions that specifically target the densified east coast of Vancouver Island.

  • East Vancouver Island – Courtenay to Campbell River
  • East Vancouver Island – Nanoose Bay to Fanny Bay
  • East Vancouver Island – Duncan to Nanaimo

With this, meteorologists will now have the ability to issue forecasts and alerts for more detailed regions.
