It’s a new year, and with provincial limits removed on how much gas people can buy at one time, along with rules against retailers jacking fuel prices up, drivers have started to see increases in prices at the pumps around Greater Victoria.

Starting this week with an typical price for regular gas at around 150.9 cents per litre, some signage indicated a hike to 162.8 on Tuesday morning, while other stations were up to 157.9 per litre. Drivers were seen in Saanich and Victoria dashing in to those stations still listing the lower price.

As of 2 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 4), GasBuddy.com was showing a handful of stations still at 150.9 per litre for regular, but more were listed at 157.9 for regular. Across Greater Victoria, the average price per litre was 153.8 cents, the website reported.

Costco members will find the best price – 148.9 cents per litre – at their local McCallum Road station, while West Shore drivers may still find the 150.9 price point here and there.

The 157.9 price matches the best price found for regular in Vancouver, but by comparison, drivers in Toronto pay an average of 132.0 cents per litre.

The prices at Greater Victoria pumps are well above those seen at this time last year, around $1.10 per litre for regular.
