The rain stayed at bay for the annual Central Saanich and 30th Terry Fox Run on Sunday.

The Central Saanich run raised $7,000 this year, bringing its total to the $60,000 mark.

"Ken Small, who has done all 31 Terry Fox Runs, showed a t-shirt he wore back in the day when they ironed-on the decal," said Connie Hearty, run organizer. "There was a lady from Denmark, visiting her family on the Peninsula who is a two-time cancer survivor. There were people there that had done runs in Washington, PEI, Ontario, all across BC and Canada. There was an exchange student from Japan. There was a young man confined to a wheelchair. There was Marilyn Hodgson, a teacher at KELSET elementary who is one of the biggest Terry Fox Run champions around."

They were joined by many families, some with children too young to know Fox's legacy.

"We see the same people year after year," said Hearty. "They participated for their loved ones who have passed and for those that are still fighting.  These are the everyday heroes and to be with them today was very humbling."
