Finall acclaimed as mayor in North Saanich

The race is on for council seats in the district of North Saanich

Mayor Alice Finall will remain at the helm in North Saanich. The mayor elected during the last municipal election was acclaimed as registration closed Friday.

Vying for the six council seats surrounding her in the Nov. 19 local election are incumbent councillors Dunstan Browne and Craig Mearns, both claimed seats via byelection earlier this year. Also running are Allan Collier, who served previously as a Saanich School Board trustee; Ted Daly, who served as mayor of North Saanich prior to Finall and earlier as a councillor in both North Saanich and Sidney; Ted Izard; Conny McBride; former Saanich School Board trustee Elsie McMurphy; Celia Stock and Jack Thornburgh.

Three are running for the two seats as school trustee in District 63: Monica Copeland, Barbara Menzies, and current trustee Jim Standen.

An individual may withdraw from being a candidate by delivering a signed withdrawal statement to the Chief Election Officer before 4 p.m. on Friday, October 21.

Voting opportunities in North Saanich include advance voting on Nov. 9 and 16 at municipal hall, 1620 Mills Road, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. General voting day is Nov. 19 at municipal hall from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
