Sidney firefighters warned drivers to watch for crews as they cleaned up a “significant fuel spill” on the Pat Bay Highway Thursday (May 11).

The fire department was called around 9 a.m. for what turned out to be a mysterious fuel spill northbound near the end of the merge lane from Beacon Avenue onto Highway 17.

Firefighters found it was quite a spill, and contacted Emcon Services Inc., the contractor responsible for maintenance of the highway, said Deputy Chief Mike Harman.

Firefighters and local RCMP helped with traffic control as crews cleared the spill.

Crews also checked nearby vehicles, but the source of the spill remains unexplained.
