A Friday morning collision on the Pat Bay Highway in Central Saanich left one woman with injuries to her head and foot.

The two-vehicle crash occurred just after 8 a.m. on Jan. 8 when a female driver heading south into Victoria hit a trailer attached to a dump truck that was turning left across the highway.

The driver of the dump truck was heading north before making a left-hand turn onto East Saanich Road, explained Sgt. Paul Brailey of the Central Saanich Police Service.

The woman told police that she had seen the dump truck but hadn’t seen that it was also towing a flat-bed trailer and ended up crashing into the back of it, he said. She was taken to the hospital by paramedics with what police said was a minor head injury as well as an injured foot.

Brailey said that the stormy weather was likely the cause of the incident as “visibility was poor” and both speed and alcohol were ruled out as factors.

Southbound traffic was affected in the area but has resumed.

Central Saanich police are reminding drivers to plan ahead as the rainy weather continues for the next several months. Proper tires and reduced speeds help reduce the risk of collisions, Brailey said.
