Cocaine seized in arrests

Local man among trio charged

A North Saanich man faces drug trafficking charges after police made multiple arrests on the Peninsula last week.

Following a joint forces operation targeting cocaine trafficking on the Peninsula, Sidney North Saanich RCMP and the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit arrested three men on May 18 in Sidney and North Saanich.

“The men were arrested separately in their vehicles and held in custody,” said Cpl. Chris Swain, media liaison for Sidney North Saanich RCMP.

Charges of  Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking were laid against a 37-year-old man from North Saanich. The other two men, a 38-year-old man from Port Alberni and a 51-year-old man from Mayne Island, were released but charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession for the Purpose of trafficking are pending.

“After the arrests, search warrants were executed on two residences in North Saanich, as part of the same investigation,” Swain said. “A significant quantity of cocaine was seized and taken off the street during this investigation, with a total value of over $20,000. Quantities of cash, vehicles and other property were also seized.”
