Central Saanich resident finds missing smoke marker

Military smoke marker had fallen from a Sea King helicopter during a routine flight.

CENTRAL SAANICH — A resident out walking her dog in Central Saanich found a missing military smoke marker that had fallen from a helicopter on July 28.

Central Saanich Police Service Deputy Chief Constable Les Sylven reported on August 11 that the resident was walking in an isolated area near Danica Place when she discovered a C2A2 Military Marine Smoke Marker, a flammable, dangerous device. It has been dropped from a Sea King helicopter during a routine flight over Central Saanich.

"DND Explosive Ordinance Disposal technicians have attended the scene and safely recovered the flare, which had been damaged but was still live," stated Sylven in an email.
