Central Saanich man charged in sexual abuse case

Andre 'Andy Van Goor accused of sexual abuse between 1988 ad 2003 while employed at Royal Athletic Park in Victoria.

Victoria police this week arrested 75-year-old Andre ‘Andy’ Van Goor of Central Saanich, on allegations of historical sexual abuse.

Van Goor was arrested by Victoria Police investigators on Jan. 17. He has since been released, according to information from VicPD Public Affairs Constable Matt Rutherford. Van Goor’s next expected court appearance is Feb. 22.

Two charges, one of sexual exploitation and one of sexual assault, were approved by the Crown according to the VIcPD, following an allegation made by a victim, who is now an adult. The victim came forward to police in 2015, stated Rutherford.

The allegations stem from when Van Goor was employed at Royal Athletic Park as a supervisor. He worked there, according to police, between 1988 and 2003 — the time period during which the alleged offences took place.

The VicPD state that detectives continue to investigate and believe there may be more victims or witnesses. If anyone has information about the case and Van Goor’s activities with children and youth, they are asked to call the VicPD non-emergency line at 250-995-7654.
