Power is back for all but the last handful of Saanich residents impacted by an overnight outage.

A car crash in Saanich Saturday night had left close to 2,000 BC Hydro customers without power into Sunday morning (July 24).

The lights went out at about 11 p.m. Saturday for 1,859 customers located south of Mann Avenue, west of Angeleah Place, north of Forshaw Road and east of Holland Avenue. BC Hydro says power has been returned to almost all of those customers, with less than five still without power as of 12:40 p.m. Sunday.

BC Hydro says the cause of the outage was a car crash.

Saanich Police said some traffic lights were down during the outage and advised reisdents to use caution and treat downed traffic lights as four-way stops. Black Press Media has reached out to the Saanich Police Department for further details about the crash.

Hydro crews were on-site as of 9:30 a.m.
