Tasty treats from the Peninsula are in the thoughts, and on the tongues of brilliant, international young minds.

When John Treleaven, president of the Saanich Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, headed to speak at the G-20 Summit last summer, he took a taste of the Peninsula with him.

Treleaven, of Treleaven Consulting Group, spoke to a group of students invited from each of the G-20 Summit countries on Surviving the Financial Meltdown in a Small Town.

“I took Melinda’s Biscotti to the G-20 summit. Every one of those students, including the president of Italy, got a Melinda’s biscotti and I told her story,” Treleaven told the business community during the annual Mayors’ Breakfast. “There are hundreds of stories on the Saanich Peninsula that are equally brilliant.”

The 2011 Crystal Awards for Business Excellence are open for nominations, he announced.

“For any of you who want a fix, you want those endorphins to be really flowing through the blood system … come to that evening,” Treleaven, said. “But before that evening, think about the businesses around here and the owners of those businesses who are doing totally remarkable things.”

The Crystal Awards showcase businesses on the Saanich Peninsula recognizing business excellence demonstrated during the year. There are 13 award categories that recognize accomplishments and contributions of businesses on the Peninsula in sustaining and enhancing the economic and social well being of the community.

The award evening will be held in April. Visit www.peninsulachamber.ca for nomination information.
