Sandra Richardson, Victoria Foundation CEO. This year’s Vital Signs survey includes questions about the effects of COVID-19 on our region, in addition to questions exploring issues such as affordability, the environment, arts and culture, and safety.

As Greater Victoria continues the journey back from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, respondents to this year’s Vital Signs survey will notice the questions look a little different from years past.

As always, results of the 2020 Victoria Foundation survey, combined with local statistics, will be brought together in the Victoria’s Vital Signs report, released each fall by the Foundation as a snapshot of livability and wellbeing in the region.

Ensuring the annual community check-up remains relevant to Greater Victoria today, the survey, which launched June 1, this year invites you to weigh in on the effects of COVID-19 on our region, in addition to areas such as affordability, the environment, arts and culture, and safety.

“Victoria’s Vital Signs survey is a key tool used by local decision-makers and donors when deciding where to allocate funds to create the greatest impact,” says Victoria Foundation CEO Sandra Richardson, encouraging everyone to take a few minutes to share their thoughts. “The global pandemic presented some challenges for the region, but is also a unique opportunity to explore where our community excelled in its response and where we need to do better.”

But questions aren’t the only impact COVID has had on the 15th annual survey. The survey time period has also been reduced to just one month, with the final date to share your thoughts July 1.

Your voice can make a difference

Launched in 2006 as an initiative of the Victoria Foundation’s 70th anniversary, Vital Signs is part of a national program from Community Foundations of Canada. At its heart, though, Vital Signs is a local community check-up, measuring the vitality of our region, identifying significant trends, and assigning grades to issue areas critical to quality of life right here in Greater Victoria.

Based on previous Vital Signs results, the Foundation last year distributed more than $18 million in grants to 523 organizations – funds that support invaluable programs and initiatives working to improve the quality of life for all residents.

Beyond the scope of the survey, continuing efforts are also made to make it easier and faster to take – simply connect on your smartphone, tablet or computer and answer the questions that apply to you – about 10 minutes and you’re done!

As a thank you, those who respond to the survey and prize section by July 1 will also be entered into a prize draw.
