Snow is falling on the Saanich Peninsula and around Greater Victoria, and so the question on everyone’s mind is:

Will today be a snow day?

That’s a question concerning to both parents and students (but for very different reasons, perhaps).

The schools of School District 63 (Saanich) have emergency closure procedures in place — in case of events like a heavy snowfall. So, if there’s a lot of the white stuff on the ground early tomorrow morning, be sure to check in with the school district’s website - sd63.bc.ca - and find their weather alerts.

Local media will also be informed when schools are closed. According to the district’s policy, it’s up to the school district itself to determine whether the weather is poor enough to warrant a closure. If schools are open, there will be no media releases about it - just like any other day.

Radio stations (CFAX, CKKQ and CBC) will be given closure details for immediate broadcast.

The district may also announce closure details on Twitter - sd63schools.

Another good place to check in with is #yyjtraffic, a Twitter handle that provides the region with a rundown of what local people, emergency officials and media are posting about road conditions.

And of course, watch the Peninsula News Review on Twitter and Facebook for updates on local school closures and conditions.

First things first, however, look out the window and determine if that’s enough snow to avoid, to embrace, or go play in.
