The Jubilee Park project has taken another step forward in North Saanich.

Council has awarded the phase three preparation contract to Five Star Paving Co. Ltd. with a total tender bid of $137,075.59 (excluding GST). The approval came at a June council meeting with work to begin in the coming weeks.

The park first opened in 2016 and the district continues to make enhancements while adding new features for an inclusive, multi-faceted, sensory-rich play space.

In March, council approved the purchase of an upgraded play structure with some modifications from the designs recommended after public consultations. The equipment, to be purchased from Swing Time Playgrounds and Parks came with a bill of $99,881 (excluding GST), which did not include the rubber surfacing now in the plans.

In April, council also approved the installation of rubber surfacing for the playground area. The $120,000 funding for that portion of the project came from the growing communities fund and the contract was awarded to Swing Time Distributors. That installation is scheduled to be finished in the fall.

The third and final planned phase of the Jubilee Park upgrade project had a previously approved total budget of $250,000 with any overages to be covered by the parks capital reserve.
