Saanich Peninsula residents will have an opportunity to provide input on what they want added or improved in their recreational facilities.
The Capital Regional District (CRD) and the Peninsula Recreation Commission (PRC) are inviting residents in North Saanich, Central Saanich, Sidney, Tsartlip, Pauquachin, Tsawout and Tseycum First Nations to get involved in helping PRC understand the community’s current and future recreation needs.
The Recreation Facility Needs Assessment study is looking specifically at indoor recreation facilities, as well as outdoor sports fields, tennis and pickleball courts.
Residents can take a survey and attend community workshops to help PRC make informed decisions on the peninsula’s recreation facilities and services.
The survey is available until Dec. 6 at 11:55 p.m.
In-person public workshops will be held on Wednesday (Nov. 13) from 2-3 p.m. at Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney, Thursday (Nov.14) from 2-6 p.m. at Central Saanich Cultural Centre in Brentwood Bay and Friday (Nov. 15) from 4-9 p.m. at Panorama Recreation Centre in North Saanich.
“Through engaging with residents and user groups we aim to gather valuable insights that will inform the development of facilities and offering of recreation programs,” says Niall Paltiel, chair of PRC.
Information on additional workshops with interested groups or individuals will be made available when dates and locations are confirmed.
“We want to hear how you want recreational services to work for you and your community,” he said.
The findings from the needs assessment will help inform the improvement of recreation services over the next 10 years and beyond.
