The Greater Victoria Green Team cleared 15 cubic metres of invasive plants from Brethour Park in Sidney on Saturday, Sept. 7.

24 volunteers with the Greater Victoria Green Team managed to clear 15 cubic metres, or the equivalent of almost 95 bathtubs, of a number of invasive plants from Brethour Park in Sidney.

On Saturday, Sept. 7, the team, along with the help of Sidney Mayor Cliff McNeil-Smith and Coun. Scott Garnett, cleared English ivy, English holly and Himalayan blackberry from the park.

"I'm so glad I signed up for the Brethour Park event as it reminded me of how great a group it is. I have told many people about it," noted one of the participants, Jill, in a news release.

The Greater Victoria Green Team, a program of the charity Green Teams of Canada, said the event "exemplifies the power of collective action and the vital role community engagement plays in environmental stewardship."

The team will be returning to the same park on Sept. 21 to help plant trees during the Town of Sidney’s Tree Appreciation Day.
