Come sail away off the coast of Sidney

A cannon’s report will herald the start of the spring and summer sailing season on Saturday.

The blessing of the boats will take place this Saturday during the Sidney North Saanich Yacht Club and Capital City Yacht Club joint Sailpast.

NORTH SAANICH — A cannon’s report will herald the start of the spring and summer sailing season on Saturday.

The Sidney North Saanich and Capital City yacht clubs hold a joint Sailpast off of Sidney. Events start at noon and the mini cannon goes off at around 3 p.m. to set the  yachts off on a brief excursion into the Salish Sea. People can expect to see around 100 boats — and the best place to see them will be from the Beacon and Bevan piers.
