Canadian country music band Doc Walker is coming to the Charlie White Theatre in Sidney on Thursday, Sept. 12.

The band has topped the charts numerous times in the past two decades, making them one of Canada's most recognizable country acts. Apart from Top 10 songs like Beautiful Life, From Here, and I'm Gonna Make You Love Me, the band has won a Juno Award, 14 Canadian Country Music Association Awards, and produced eight No. 1 CMT videos.

Doc Walker was formed in the early 1990s in Westbourne, Man. Fronted by singer/guitarist Chris Thorsteinson, the band built their reputation through weddings, parties, and any show they could line up. Then, in 1994, Thorsteinson recruited childhood friend Dave Wasyliw, a singer/guitarist, and together they became unstoppable.

The band has performed few shows in the past four years, due to the pandemic. Thorsteinson has said that the lost connection with fans was difficult but ultimately gave them more gratitude for playing live shows.

“I think the lack of live shows has given us time to reflect on the last 25 years and reminded me to never take for granted the support we’ve had from our fans. I also realized how much I missed meat and cheese trays backstage! But seriously, the plan has always been to create music that we are proud of and to spend as much time as we can out on the road playing for the fans.”

The Charlie White Theatre part of the Mary Winspear Centre is located at 2243 Beacon Ave. Tickets are $58.80 through 250-656-0275 or marywinspear.ca.
