The prestigious Sidney Fine Art Show is coming up fast and the volunteer committee is in need of more volunteers for the upcoming events scheduled for the fall.
Susan Burns, who is on the Sidney Fine Art Show volunteer committee, said that from a volunteer perspective, the show is similar to previous years, but that each year they have a number of volunteers who have decided to retire.
“So each year we’re looking for new volunteers and we were short of volunteers last year compared to previous years and we’re hoping that we will be able to increase our numbers this year,” she said.
Volunteers are responsible for accepting the art as it comes in from various artists to go through for adjudication, which takes place September 11 to 14
They also work with the show designer to set up the show, and are present throughout the show to help as attendants, help with security, along with selling the tickets.
To become a volunteer, Burns said the easiest way is to log onto the Sidney Fine Art Show website: sidneyfineartshow.com/volunteers. When there, a list of descriptions will be seen for all of the different positions available both during adjudication and the show itself. It also gives the times of the shifts, most being between three and four hours. People can then fill out the online application form or do so in hardcopy as well.
Currently, Burns said they have very few volunteers, but are planning to send out a contact broadcast to volunteers from previous years, which they usually get a good response from.
Between the adjudication and the show, there are approximately 450 shifts to fill, and last year, they had under 200 volunteers, with some people tending to multiple shifts.
The Fine Art Show will take place October 11 to 16 and before the show will be a volunteer appreciation reception, with patrons able to attend during a portion of the evening as well.
Similar to last year, there will be around 300 to 400 pieces of art chosen from around 1,250 entries, and three adjudicators will be present.
The artists of the show will come out on the Saturday (Oct. 15) for a meet and greet to allow members of the community to ask questions.
