A Juno-nominated tenor saxophonist and his trio will be playing the upcoming Jazz Vespers in Deep Cove.

Ryan Oliver, along with John Lee on bass and Brent Jarvis on piano, will be performing at St. John’s United Church, 10990 West Saanich Rd., on Sunday, May 7.

One of the places Oliver honed his craft was on the west coast and he currently calls Victoria home, however, as one of Canada’s most in-demand saxophonists he tours the country and the world. Nanaimo-born Lee has been playing music the majority of his life and as a result has earned an impressive collection of awards, scholarships and honours from jazz festivals. Jarvis has numerous CDs under his belt and a busy schedule with over 170 performances a year, ranging from solo piano to big band and everything else in between.

The performance starts at 7 p.m. There is no admission charge, but an offering will be taken to cover the cost of the musicians. For more, call 250-656-0875 or email bernadettegreene@shaw.ca

The next Jazz Vespers series continues on June 4.
