Soloist Heather Carpenter and dogs from the local Trail Blazers dog-walking group make a stop at the bandshell in Beacon Park.

Peninsula Singers’ spring concert will showcase soloist Heather Carpenter in Canadian singer-songwriter Connie Kaldor’s I Love That Dog, a love song to Peninsula’s furry animal companions.

“Since statistics show that over 65 per cent of us own a dog or two, we wanted to make sure we included a salute to Fido in this concert devoted to love songs,” said Glenda Korella, artistic director of the chorus.

Carpenter has extensive experience in musical theatre, including productions of Chicago and Sunny Side Up. She reports that her two pugs named Ula and Peaches have given her performance at rehearsals four paws up.

Since this is also flea and tick season, local vets are reminding people that if they also “love that dog,” they should make sure their dogs are protected.

Concerts take place Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday May 1 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $11 for kids under 12 and $22 for adults; available at Mary Winspear box office at 250-656-0275. For more information visit www.PeninsulaSingers.ca.
