Jazz enthusiasts won’t want to miss a night of music in North Saanich this January.
St. John’s United Church’s Jazz Vespers series will feature The Tiny Rhythm Kings on Sunday, Jan. 5, at 7 p.m. The ensemble comprises Drummer Kelby MacNayr, bassist Joey Smith, and pianist Tony Genge.
MacNayr, a versatile percussionist, has performed with renowned artists across jazz, pop, and classical genres, appearing at major festivals and on national broadcasts like CBC Radio and National Public Radio. Genge, celebrated for his Red Garland and Ahmad Jamal piano styles, has collaborated with many top-tier musicians and published works on jazz legends. Smith, who toured with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, brings his expertise as an arranger, teacher, and performer alongside notable jazz luminaries.
The service will be held at 10990 West Saanich Road, across from Deep Cove School. A suggested donation of $20 will help compensate the musicians and support the Vespers program.
The Jazz Vespers series continues on Feb. 2, featuring Jennifer Scott and Rene Worst.
