Young Shamrocks fans test out shots in St. Patrick’s day celebration

Dozens of young fans lined up to test whether their shots were up to Shamrocks standards.

“Any time to throw a ball around, that’s what people wanna do,” said Bob Heyes, who has coached the Victoria Shamrocks for nine years. This is the team’s 70th anniversary, he added.

Minor lacrosse players at the tyke and pee wee levels brought out their sticks and helmets to the shootaround at Eagle Ridge arena in Langford.

Single-game and season tickets were being sold at the event. Some local Shamrocks players were on hand to sign autographs, answer questions and offer shooting tips.

An accompanying barbecue lunch accepted donations for the organization.
