Tar sands talk at Hemp and Co. in Sidney

Wednesday presentation by Matt Beasley hopes to find common goal on energy strategy

Hemp and Company in Sidney will be the site of a community engagement forum on the tar sands Aug. 15.

The presentation is hosted by Matt Beasley and is in support of Band Together B.C., a campaign that encourages exploring alternatives to expanding the tar sands.

Celebrating B.C.'s value for wild spaces, clean air and water, healthy and vibrant communities and respect for First Nations traditional livelihoods are key elements of this sustainability-focused campaign, Beasley said.

The forum will be based on open discussion in reference to questions around the expansion of the tar sands. The aim of the evening is to find a common goal that can be used to promote a viable energy strategy, Beasley explained.

The forum runs from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15 at Hemp and Company Sidney (2348 Beacon Ave.)
